Fund performance is calculated based on Adjusted NAV (which represents the equity only portion of the NAV and excludes undistributed net income (e.g. cash)). (Source: Adjusted NAV is provided by State Street Bank and Trust Company. Performance information is provided by the Manager.)  Performance quoted represents past performance, which is no guarantee of future results. Investment return and principal value will fluctuate, so you may have a gain or loss when shares are sold. Current performance may be higher or lower than that quoted. Index returns are unmanaged and do not reflect the deduction of any fees or expenses. (Price Return with no dividend reinvested. Source: Hang Seng Indexes Company Limited.) Performance returns for periods of less than one year are not annualised.

Calendar Year Performance (As of )

TraHK does not currently have a dividend reinvestment program relating to the semi-annual dividends paid by TraHK to shareholders. Consequently, the TraHK (assuming TraHK semi-annual dividend reinvested) performance may not be realised unless investors choose to reinvest dividends when paid using their own means.

Past performance information is not indicative of future performance. Investors may not get back the full amount invested.

The computation basis of TraHK (assuming TraHK semi-annual dividend reinvested) performance is based on the calendar year end, NAV to NAV, with semi-annual dividend reinvested.

The computation basis of TraHK (assuming without TraHK semi-annual dividend reinvested and excluding undistributed net income) performance is based on the calendar year end, NAV* to NAV* (*NAV excluding undistributed net income), without semi-annual dividend reinvested.

The Hang Seng Index (Total Return Index) performance is provided for reference purpose only.

These figures show by how much the fund increased or decreased in value during the calendar year being shown. Performance data has been calculated in HKD on a net of fees basis including ongoing charges and excluding your trading costs on SEHK.

The benchmark of TraHK is Hang Seng Index.

Tracking Difference and Tracking Error

Explanatory Notes on Tracking Difference and Tracking Error

The Structure of TraHK

As set out in TraHK's offering documents, TraHK aims to provide investment results that closely correspond to the performance of the Hang Seng Index. To achieve this objective, TraHK invests all, or substantially all, of its assets in shares in the constituent companies of the Index ("Index Shares") in substantially the same weightings in the Hang Seng Index. As a result of holding Index Shares, TraHK receives dividends being paid on those shares, which TraHK retains in cash or cash-like investments. This cash is available for distribution to investors every 6 months. TraHK meets its investment objective over a given period when both the capital gains or losses on the stocks it holds and the accrued income from the stock dividends it receives closely correspond to the respective return and income of the Hang Seng Index over that period. The Hang Seng Index is not a total return index, but a price return index, which means it only measures capital gains and losses on its constituent stocks and does not include any cash from the dividend income which the stocks may generate.

Tracking Difference and Tracking Error

In addition to the return of an ETF, measures such as tracking difference and tracking error allow investors to assess how closely and how consistently an ETF tracks its underlying index.

  • Tracking Difference is the return difference between an ETF and its underlying index over a certain period of time.
  • Tracking error measures how consistently an ETF follows its index. It is the volatility (measured by standard deviation) of the tracking difference over a certain period of time.

There are several methodologies that can be used to allow for effective assessment of how closely or consistently an ETF meets its investment objectives. TraHK publishes tracking difference and tracking error on its website and factsheet, and the tracking difference in its Product Key Facts Statement according to the two methodologies below.

(1) The Standard Methodology : The standard methodology compares the return of TraHK calculated using its net asset value (which consists of equities and cash) with the Hang Seng Index (which consists of equities only). This is designed to provide investors with a way to compare similar investment products.

(2) The Adjusted NAV Methodology : Adjusted NAV methodology compares the Adjusted NAV of TraHK (which represents the equities only portion of the NAV and excludes undistributed net income (e.g. cash)) with the Hang Seng Index (which consists of equities only). This aims to facilitate investors' assessment on how closely and how consistently TraHK provides equity returns from capital gains or losses in line with the Hang Seng Index and in meeting its investment objective.

The above disclosures are compliant with the relevant guidance of the Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong.

Tracking Difference Table

The figures under the table titled "Tracking Difference" below are calculated using two methodologies, namely, (i) the return difference between TraHK's NAV and the Hang Seng Index [1], and (ii) the return difference between TraHK's Adjusted NAV (which represents the equities only portion of the NAV and excludes undistributed net income (e.g. cash)). and the Hang Seng Index [2].

[1] this disclosure provides comparison between TraHK's NAV (which contains equities and cash) relative to the Hang Seng Index (which consists of equities only)

[2] this disclosure provides comparison between TraHK's Adjusted NAV (which represents the equities only portion of the NAV and excludes undistributed net income (e.g. cash)) with the Hang Seng Index (which consists of equities only). This aims to facilitate investors' assessment on how closely TraHK provides equity returns from capital gains or losses in line with the Hang Seng Index.

Tracking Error Table

The figures under the table titled "Tracking Error" below are calculated using two methodologies, namely, (i) the return difference between TraHK's NAV and the Hang Seng Index [3], and (ii) the return difference between TraHK's Adjusted NAV which represents the equities only portion of the NAV and excludes undistributed net income (e.g. cash) and the Hang Seng Index [4].

[3] this disclosure provides comparison between TraHK's NAV (which contains equities and cash) relative to the Hang Seng Index (which consists of equities only). As the Tracking Difference increases each time there is cash accrued within TraHK's NAV due to the receipt of cash from securities dividends and upon a dividend payout to investors, which are not accounted for in the Hang Seng Index, this creates an increase in the Tracking Error.

[4] this disclosure provides comparison between TraHK's Adjusted NAV (which represents the equities only portion of the NAV and excludes undistributed net income (e.g. cash)) with the Hang Seng Index (which consists of equities only). This aims to facilitate investors' assessment on the consistency of TraHK providing equity returns from capital gains or losses in line with the Hang Seng Index.
